Maybe a daft question.. exactly how deep from top to bottom is eyam dale shaft? The books say 11m but i'm sure its more... Have used it many times using 20m rope .
thanks

We've been doing it recently on my 20m rope and there's always plenty left (not belaying to the 'tree' just straight on the hangars). Not sure on an accurate length but 11/12m is probably sound, there's always the ledge to swing onto if you hit your knot...

Disclaimer - I'm probably spouting s***.

yep i've actually seen rope belayed to the 'tree' laid to the right.. WHY??? it's nearly as rotten as a bankers bonus!. heyho.. going to measure it this weekend if i get chance.. as i say used it many times but appears deeper than 11m...

According to the survey figures the top (actually a knob on the right wall about 0.7m above the lip) is at 195.7m.

The station on the landing at the bottom is 10.91m lower.

Then it goes another 1.8m to the rock you slide over into the crawl.

Then another 0.46m to the floor of the crawl.

So take the pitch as 11m from the bolts and you are about right. Overall depth 13.2m from the top survey station.

Hope this helps.

A 10 metre ladder has always just about been manageable when I've had need to use one.

You'll be left hanging and having to shuffle onto the little ledge with a 10m ladder. Manageable, but if you want to be comfortable and step off right at the bottom I'd say it's about 12m

Thanks for all replies,
Have used this route many times but it's an odd one as it appears deeper..
Maybe there today or tomorrow so will measure it LOL.
