I was there on Sunday as well. The smell was *very* strong.

Did we meet in peak?  I was there with the Craven, were you with the other group staying at the tsg?

Did anyone go in the Speedwell streamway? If the smell is at Treasury then Speedwell is almost certainly the source...

On Sunday we went in & out of JH. We were at the top of the last 30 metre pitch of Leviathan when we noticed a smell of "petrol". For me it wes not that strong and I forgot about it on the way down. This would have been between 1pm and 1.30pm. The lid at the top of the ladderway was closed. I opened it and went down to the streamway then back up. I didn`t notice any smell down there.

This is very common, probably because diesel gets washed into the system from various working above. It gets trapped in the gravel in Treaury Chamber. If a group walked around and disturbed this gravel a day or two before your trip then you're likely to smell it. So, yes, it probaby arrived via the Speedwell streamway in wetter conditions but may no longer be apparent within Speedwell itself.

Also be aware that the lower part of the Treasury area has no draught, so it'll tend to dissipate most slowly in places like that.
