Gaping Gill Guide?

Hey everybody!  (y)

I'm planning on doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks sometime late August/early September and thought I might do some caving while I'm in that part of the country.

I did a fair bit of caving in my younger days but it's been a few years now and I don't have any kit of my own. I know I can hire equipment from Bernie's Cafe but is there anyone in area that operates a guiding service and who can rig the cave entrances?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you're willing to pay there is an article in Trail magazine this month by a guy who paid someone about £165 or so who took him down Bar Pot and to main chamber,

Obviously it would be free if you could get on a club trip but they probably wouldn't take you down GG on your first trip if you hadn't been for a while?

If you are planning to go at the bank hoiday weekend then check out the Craven website

http://www.cravenpotholeclub.org/gg_contentpage.aspx?Page=GapingGill.Visit&Group=GapingGill

I have been on the Bradford winch meet at spring bank holiday and they have other entrances rigged.
I dont know if Craven do the same but you could contact them to find out.

The CPC doesn't normally rig other entrances during the GG meet apart from Bar Pot (on ladders, so people can be easily got up in an emergency).

A bloke called Duncan Morrison who lives in Newby (near Clapham) may well be able to help.  He runs an outfit called "Above And Below".  Google on "Duncan Morrison caving" and you'll get him first hit.
