There's going to be a Gautries Hole Side Shaft clean up over the weekend of 28th Feb and 1st March and a further weekend a few weeks later (to be announced) and it would be great to get some cavers along to help. Skips are being paid for by Natural England, and we just need to provide the cavers.
This follows on from a project in 2004 when the shakehole around the entrance to Gautires was cleared, but the side shaft was left due to lack of time available but we always had the intention to clear this a few years later, hence this post.
For those of you who don't know where it is, if you are walking to P8 from the parking area and you are passing the Gautries Hole shakeholes to the left, the area is surrounded by trees. When you approach the gate at the far end of the encloser, the shaft is in the corner amongst the trees, approx Northeast of the entrance.
In no particular order we will be:
erecting a temporary encloser to house the junk removed (prior to putting it into skips).
hauling the junk from the side shaft / shakehole.
transporting the junk / rubbish to the skips.
We will need help throughout the weekend so if people who can help, please make it known to me in a PM or contact the DCA project officer, Martyn Grayson. See DCA website for contact details.
Any questions/suggestions etc. get in touch.
Cheers,
Wayne.
