GEO Headtorches

Has anyone here got a GEO Technical Equipment Headtorch?

I saw a group caving today and they all had this brands logo on the head band and unit itself. The units were a dual light source and seemed to have an equivalent output to my Fenix 65r.

The guy leading the group said he had been using them for a while with groups as they were around half the price of what I paid for my Fenix unit....

Anyone else have one of these GEO units and have feedback please?

Got a link to these?
No unfortunately not, I haven't seen or heard of them before. This is why I am asking here if anyone else has one or any experience of them. My Fenicx is suffering from the classic charge port issue so having seen these other similar units today made my mind start whirling...

The units I saw were nothing like those. They looked similar, but different to my 65r.

Two lamps, rectangular unit. With 'GEO' on the headband and the unit itself. Black in colour.

They looked great and the guy (can't remeber his name) leading the group spoke very highly of them. This is why I was considering getting one but I can't seem to find them online so thought I would ask here.

It looks to be a similar spec as the Sofirn HS20 I have which cost £30 and has been very solid. I got mine direct from Sofirn, not sure if that still works. The main plus is the flood mode, which is very usable for caving. It pulls a lot of current if you turn everything on so the cell protection needs to be high (like 15A), which meant I used a 3000mAHr cell rather than 3500. It will also melt plastic if you put it down after using it on full (further learning point).

If you’re looking for a cheaper option, use thrunite from their main Amazon shop . They are really solid torches and their warranty is excellent.

On another note have you tried to contact fenix ?

I have had one of the Sofirn torches before and wasn't impressed. The unit failed after a short period of time and the customer service was simply terrible when I tried to get it returned / fixed. A shame because e the unit itself wasn't to bad initially.

Yes I have contacted them and they are awful. I have known several people with the same issue who all seem to rate the customer service as 'poor'.

I will look at the Thrunite units later, cheers.

Looking at the link for Geo LUX22 I'm left wondering...
  • Would it withstand several brief full immersions in water? The USB-C recharging port is really convenient but does that mean it has a little rubber flap over it that protects from splashes, a full screw down cover making it immersible, or no protection at all
  • The flood 400 lumens, what's the run-time on that (although if you can carry a spare battery that may get round any concerns there)
  • The flood 400 lumens, is the flood broad enough to cast some light down over your feet?
I know this is roughly double the cost of the LUX22 and more that you want to pay
But you will be so impressed by it http://www.ledcaplamps.com/dragon_5.htm you really can't better it in my opinion for an exploring, mine, cave lamp. 16 hours runtime (on "Walk mode" which is the medium setting and plenty bright, lots of light!) you can go through ducks, sumps, swimming. Helmet mount only.

Edit
ClimbingCaver: liking your Croesor avatar BTW...

I have contacted the shop above to ask a few of these questions. So will come back once they reply.

The one you mentioned above is a little on the pricey side but I appreciate the link, it does look ace.

I always carry a small waterproof case with 2 batteries in when I use my Fenix 65r, always better to have a couple of spares, like you say.

I have a reply. The shop have updated the listing with the run time chart now. Not as impressive as the fenix but still very reasonable run times considering the 30/40% difference in price.

I'm going to order one and see how it is. I can also then keep. Using my spare batteries as they are the same.

Fenix run time charts are an exercise in misdirection, so I personally would consider not reaching the same implausible runtimes as a bonus...
You can say that again. My Fenix wouldn't get anywhere near the quoted run times when tested. Even with a higher capacity Panasonic cell installed, nope!

I have one. Had it a few months. I've not had any problems with run time. Still carry a spare battery and other headtorch, you never know!
I'm not into numbers, so can't quote any.
It's well made and fits over your helmet very securely. I've been up through P8 waterfall in it and had no problem, so I would say the charging port cover works well. It does seem quite a snug fit.

One of the GEO or the Fenix? If the GEO, did you buy it from the above mentioned shop?
