Gideon Henderson interview R4

I was flipping channels and landed on radio 4 last night, I would normally say “by accident” but as I’ve got it as a preset on my car radio. I think people might call me out on that!

I caught a talk/interview with Gideon Henderson - Defra, studier of permafrost/warming in Siberia through Stal dating, from memory river monitoring in Myanmar? I just tuned in and thought it was fairly interesting, and worth sharing with others who might have 30mins to spare and a mild interest.

It’s called “the life scientific” and was on radio 4 in mid-late evening last night (Tuesday 15th) 9ish.
 
I remembered today that he also talked of the Isle of Arran being a haven for geologists, seeing a good cross section of geology there. Including something called a fulgarite. Apparently these are formed by lightning bolts hitting deserts, creating a fusing of the sand into a glass like spherical object “about this size” (oh wait, that doesn’t work on radio!)
 
All those Jim Al-Kalili programmes are well worth lsitening to for 30 minutes. They go out usually on Tuesdays after the 9am news.
