Good wet weather caves for novices

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of caves todo in flood conditions.
The only inspiration I have is West kingsdale to the ladder.
Need a back up plan.

cheers

Mistral hole over in Easegill, head down to the hall of the mountain king to check out the mud and my lovely statue of the reclining lady boy.

How much of a flood?

Also at Easegill is County Pot - this obviously needs at least one ladder (and a permit) but provides a number of different options.

Attermire Cave and most other odds and ends nearby are dry.

I think Thistle Cave at Ribblehead is suitable? I've also been into part of Roger Kirk on a day when Calf Holes was too wet to do.

Borrins Moor Cave, the main (back) entrance and the dry side passage should be fine, I would guess you could follow the main passage for a short distance until it starts getting low.

Runscar and Thistle are ok, unless your novices are little kids; in which case theyt can be a bit scary.
Great Douk. These three are my fall backs when I'm in the Dales with a group; which is not very often.

Regarding mistral hole, the entrance climb and first few yards of passage my not be suitable for total novices?

The lady boy is fantastic, however I have to ask Why.......

Personally, I feel the same way about Mistral as certain SWCC members feel about the opening of Top Entrance.

Not sure, but I would hazard a guess that the upper-parts would be ok - Burnett's Passage and Great Cavern, Cavern 32, Roberts Passage etc. The lower section may perhaps be suspect..

The first crawl in the upstream passages (below the climb down) floods very easily. Downstream below Long Gallery also fills to the roof fairly readily, and I avoid entering that section in wet weather. The main inlet stream becomes impassable for novices (who wouldn't be able to traverse over the two lower pitches. As you say, Roberts Passage, Burnett's Cavern and Gour Chambers are all fine.

I have talked about the lady boy sculpture before on this board somewhere, but just to recap. We (LUPC) were on a novice trip down there and found a fine sculpture of a head in the mud so for fun we sculpted the body and legs to join it. I being a man gave it a fullsome pair of bossoms, but alas my project was hijacked by the female members of the group who spent some time sculpting some impressive male genitalia for it which were then added and hence the mistral ladyboy was born (although technically this bit of cave is in pippikin pot as mistral hole is just the entrance series to the first large chamber).

Gour Chambers are all fine.

There is a significant amount of flood debris on the approach to the Gour Chambers - I think it is fair to say that in wet weather the Chambers themselves may be fine but getting to and from may well not be!

Can I assume that Dan yr Ogof is not considered suitable for inclusion in the list requested by the topic starter?

Given that its location is in S wales and Not yorkshire, I guess not...  ::)
Maybe the moderators could move it for you...

Illusion Pot if your novices aren't inept at climbing down/up scaffold. The wet crawl/duck could be a bit miserable though. Great big stomping caving after that though.

Menacer, my dear I suggest you read the title and the first post carefully. No arbitrary geographic constraints are included.  :coffee:
