Goyden update

On Thursday 13th, last week, we did some work at and around Goyden Pot:

The rope at the first little pitch by the big window has been replaced and labelled 'Goyden 1'.

The rope in Mud Hall has been replaced and labelled 'Goyden 2'.

Both are brand new shiny static, kindly donated by How Stean Gorge.

The 2 stiles (top and bottom of the hill) to Manchester Hole have been repaired with some nice decking.

The entrance to Goyden has had some major clearing - the recent floods had at one point completeley blocked it  ; a lot of the big bits have been cut up for logs and removed and a lot of the smaller stuff has been burnt.

There is still lots of debris around the entrance but we intend to shift this tomorrow. If anyone wants to lend some muscle (or cake or coffee) for the day, anything would be appreciated. We should get there by 10.30.

Cheers

Thanks George. This sort of conservation work does a huge amount in promoting good relations with Land owner/occupiers. It shows that cavers understand the nature of a farmers working life and the persistent problems they endure from regular "tourists". As we enter lambing time, the stress on upland farmers is palpable. Anything we, as cavers, can do to reassure farmers that we are prepared help if called upon would be well received. I mean repairing fences and gates etc, not lambing triplets.
The CNCC conservation budget is available to recompense any club or personal expenses incurred through undertaking such work. eg Fuel costs, equipment, tools and materials and so on. Send me a PM if anyone in your team has any receipts to submit.
Hopefully- your efforts will inspire others to similar projects in their local/favourite Dale.
