Grisedale (nr Garsdale)

Technically not Yorkshire but close enough.

Was in Grisedale the other day and poking around some small caves up there. There seems to be a lot more there than I remembered being mentioned in NC3 (my copy of the book has unfortunately wandered off so I have no way to check it now) There was a particularly interesting entrance at grid ref. 756,944. I was wondering if anyone with NC3 would be able to read up on whether it is included and if there is a through trip from this entrance. The description should read something like tight slot leading to low streamway. Downstream short sump leads to resurgence in dry valley.
Upstream is the direction I'm interested in since I found some other holes about 100m further up the valley which could probably be made to connect.

Haven't got NC3 to hand to check but a quick look at a survey of Dover Gill Caves gave the grid-ref as 756 945, so it might possibly be one of them?

I don't follow that link. If it is the cave marked on the os map then it isn't that one. It's about 300m back down the valley from there. The one marked on the map leads to a flat out crawl blocked by silt after 20m or so. The resurgence for this is quite close I think.

Thanks for the heads up on Dover Gill. I'll look into it and see if I have the survey at home.

If it is Dover Gill Caves there's probably a detailed description in a Gritstone Club Journal. (I remember going on a trip in there in the 80s with Roger Sutcliffe and I remember he was writing an article about the place at the time.)

Thanks for the reference. Will try and dig out a copy. I guess this area doesn't get much attention, being a bit out of the way of the main caving areas.
