I cannot help regarding books.
However I have had reasonable success taking a picture of a page in foreign book, then searching the picture with “Google Lense” to extract the text and then use Google translate.

It is a lot simpler than it sounds, trust me 😂

Then use the Braemoor French caving glossary to translate the caving specific words in to the appropriate English ones.

Google Lens will now do the translation itself, you don't have to copy it into Translate. It's quite startling to be in a country where you don't read the language, photograph a sign and immediately see the English words overlaid on it!
