Just been exploring a cave, about the size of Deer Cave, but 5.2km long and still going.

The above photo was taken by the members of the Joint British-Vietnamese Caving Expedition 2009.

Looks very impressive, where is it in the country?

I have done some caving in northern Vietnam in Son La Province and also up some obscure tributaries of the Song Da in hill tribe country (we were the first Europeans since French colonial times to go to that area). We explored several kms of caves including a gem of a cave called Hang Khoang.

Cheers

There's a short report, with photo, in today's Daily Mirror. There doesn't seem to be anything on their website. World's biggest cave, 200m high x 150m wide, almost twice the size of the previous record holder. Caver Adam Spillane said "It is a truly amazing sight."

Any of this true? Apart from it been truly amazing obviously.  :)

Cheers Rob.

At least the report in the Sun says it's the largest passage and not the largest cave.

I thought the passage in Dear Cave was 200m high?

Deer Cave has been quoted in many places as the largest cave passage in the world, a claim repeated by the Mulu National Park.

I have not seen any real evidence to back up these claims.

To my knowledge the passage in Deer Cave has not been accurately measured. The RGS report states

... at its downstream end the passage is 175m wide and 120m high. Through its whole length the cave is no less than 90m high and wide... and this height does not include the soaring 30m diameter avens which break the roof in the upstream half.

Climbing the slope [to Antler Passage]... floor of the main passage , lit by daylight, can be seen 190m below

In the Caves of Mulu Report it states

and today is a strong contender for the title of the largest cave passage in the world...
