Help in Cotswold area

I've been asked to put together a team event based in the cotswolds area between Gloucester and Cirencester. I have 16 people who need to be occupied for a day with some adventurous activity which I can supply, but I'm not sure of venues.

So as well as the cotswold water park, does anyone know of locations in this area where I could cave / climb / abseil / get lost on the moors, etc? Any crags (no matter how small) quarries, old airfields, spooky woods, tunnels etc?

Cheers!

The caves in the Cotswolds tend to be quite small and not really suitable for this sort of jolly. For climbing & stuff I would certainly recommend the crags on Cleve Hill.

There are some stone mines but i don't know of their extent, location relative to your area, suitability or access controls.

How about  Sapperton Tunnel? Put your wellies on and go for a wade. Then wander through the woods above and try and find all the air shafts. Make your punters photograph and get GPS locations for every one.

Windrush Stone Mine, nor any of the others are really suitable places, been considering (have some knowledge of such events)whether there are any underground sites for such an event, open access at the Sapperton Tunnel but probably not very exciting.
With respect Glos SS would not really be able to advise !
Grahams idea for Climbing/Aseiling would probably be possible, there is an old railway Viaduct near Fish Hill, Broadway that has been used in the past for Abseiling.

Thanks for all the help, folks. Went up there last week and had a snoop about; Sapperton tunnel (both ends) and the gorge by the tunnel house inn look good for a tyrolean / raft build.

Graham; are the cliffs you describe at Bishop's cleeve? I ran out of light last week and none of the locals seemed to know about it, I can find something which may look like cliffs on google earth but do you have a more precise location?

Cheers

Cleeve Hill where we climb is a small rock face that looks like it has lots of holds. It is so well used that the bottom 1 to 2 meters is very smooth so a bit of a s0d to get started on. It ranges from 4 to 8 mts high. The top of the face is flaky especially after frost. There are stakes above but I would not climb there in the winter but then I am a fare weather climber anyway.

You get fantastic views from the top of the ridge which is common land.  There are often people flying kites & doing acrobats attached to harnesses & boards.  Over the back a short distance is Belas Knap long barrow nicely kept. The area would be great for orienteering.

put in Cheltenham Racecourse pan in & right twice & you get the common.

To eat I would recommend here a bright pub with open fires & good food.

Of passing historical interest on the subject of the rescue from Issac's cave on 13th January 1957 -

"The police were most kind and grateful to us ..... ..... .... They provided us with transport and allowed petrol coupons to those of us that had used their own cars"

It is easy to forget that many people, including rescue team members, were without transport in those days.
