Somewhere in the Skipton area there is a pub called the Rose & Crown which is immediately opposite a church. Can anyone tell me where?

Thanks

Graham

Is it "Rose & Crown, The -  10 Coach St , Skipton - 0871 4261932"?
Or here:  http://knowhere.co.uk/3189_eatdrink.html

For many years it was the CPC's Sunday night meeting spot in Skipton, after a weekend's caving.  Now that the CPC draws members from a much wider area I think it's fallen out of use.  But if you really want to know about it I could put you in touch with folk who were once stalwart regulars.

Thanks guys, so it is in Skipton. Matter of fact it's not the pub I'm after but the Church.  Old friend of mine got married there & we need to find it when we take her ashes to be scattered.

Dear Mr Mullan

There are 2 main CofE churches in Skipton. The Parish Church is on the corner of Keighley Road & Cross Street; Holy Trinity is at the top of the High Street. The Roman Catholic church, St Stephen’s, is on Castle View Terrace, Gargrave Road. There’s St Andrews (United Reform?) on Newmarket Street

As Ian states the Rose & Crown is on Coach Street, I’m not aware of any church on Coach Street. Opposite the Rose & Crown is an outdoor shop then the canal basin. Certainly never noticed a church or chapel when walking up the street past the Rose & Crown to my cousin’s shop.

I don’t remember any pubs close by the Parish Church (but I rarely go in that part of Skipton) although there are a few near Holy Trinity. The Castle is next door to the church. The Black Horse is just down the High Street from the Holy Trinity with the Red Lion a little further on across the High Street. Don’t recollect any pubs near St Andrews

You might try asking Simon Beck: he lives in Skipton near the Parish Church.

I’ve just spotted that you wrote “Skipton area”, does this mean that you think it might not be in the town of Skipton itself and that the net should be cast wider?

Some Googling has identified that there is a Rose and Crown in Church Street, Ilkley, opposite the church. Ilkley is about 10 miles from Skipton. Can anyone local confirm that for Graham?

Robert, yes, it might not be in Skipton itself. Ilkley is possible.

We have a photo taken at the wedding, through the door of the church which shows the pub on the opposite side of the road.

Can you publish the pic? (the pub bit of it) - we might find it easier to recognise the pub than the church

Do you have any pictures showing the church?

Link below to pictures of All Saints, which I understand to be opposite the Rose and Crown.

Indeed it is. The cunning photo of the church omits the busy crossroads. To the left of the photo lies the Leeds to Skipton road. And on the opposite side of the road to the church is the Rose & Crown.

BTW I notice that the page is maintained by Hugh Lorimer who is probably the same Hugh Lorimer I used to work with in Otley.
