Hi Les,
from past and personal experiences of HE, please take it on board to,
A; (if you are running the event through input of a public bar on site, get them to get lots in and then some, remember Kendal!!)
B; (If the crew are doing the drinks, think of those who do not drink Bitter,
the Lager & Cider ran out far too fast at tea time on Saturday HE 2007, much to the disgust of all us non bitter drinking so & so's!!)
Better to have surplus to sell to folks "cheaply" on Sunday afternoon, than have so much pissed off and not pissed on Sat night?

Just a personal observation,

Thanks,

Basher

Sensible advice.
At NAMHO'07 there was an on-site pub - not a real pub but oriented for the public vistors. They did the catering but  clearly didn't do their sums.

Draught beer started to run out on Friday night, by 19:00 Saturday it had all gone.

About 160 mine explorers there for three days some of them - who all like a drink, generally draught ale as much as the cavers do - you do the maths - they had in just three barrels!!!

Hi Dep,

We run our own bar because experience tells us that nobody will believe our beer consumption figures. If we don't run the bar then we run out of beer.

Last year at Hidden Earth the 400 delegates drank ALL 26 kegs of real ale, Most of the bottles of ale we had as a standby, ALL the cans of lager (Northern softy beer apparently  ;) ), and ALL the cider. This is the most beer we have ever consumed and we will of course increase the quantities to ensure it doesen't look that close again.

It is a very difficult task to balance quantities with consumption when you don't know how many are coming. Since we took on the bar we have NOT run out of beer!! but last year was quite close.

Well I'll come this year if it's going to be at the right end of the country, so add a little extra for me...

Lager & Cider drinking soft so & so's, like me!
So Yorkshire produces the best bitter and Somerset produces the best Cider.
Les, we are living in each others garden of Eden?
As far as lager goes, who's moving to Germany??

confused as always

Bash

I'm a Cider drinker too and remember how it ran out last year - please get more Thatchers cider next year - or Cheddar Valley or something cider like.... sweet sweet cider... hmmm!

I propose Wilkins Cider Farm, Mudgeley. Being completely selfless I will visit the site (again) this weekend to check facilities. Will also nip into Thatchers as a control experiment. Anyone wishing to join this difficult (and dangerous) research project can meet in the Hunters on Friday night.

Yours to the final Addlestones,
Dave

If you were regulars in the Chat Room, you might have learnt where HE08 is (probably) going to be.

WARNING - a visit to the UKCaving Chatroom may seriously damage your sense of humour or lack of it. Treat with caution. Novices should be led by an experienced driveller.

...but then....      :chair:

It is not yet confirmed so I will not post the possible dates or venue incase it ends up not there or then.

When I know, so will you all.  (y)

Hey,

has the location been confirmed yet as I have found somewhere that says:

Friday 26 to Sunday 28 September 2008 at Prince Henry's Grammar School, Otley, West Yorkshire.

and wanted to know if it was true?

That's what the Hidden Earth website currently says, so I guess that's confirmed!
