Anyone ever tried to make your own windproof or waterproof jacket - such as the patterns sold by peninne fabrics? What was the outcome/experience?

Not me but I know someone who talked about getting some wellingtons then waterproof trousers and sealing then watertight together to make more flexable wanders for very wet mines, typically when the water is 3ft high, waders are too cumbersom and dont move well.

That's only knee deep!

Wetsuit socks, furry undersuit and waterproof oversuit: comfy in the water, warm again once you get out. Can even get through short sections of waist deep water (50/60ft) and only have wet knees by the time the water's worked it's way through the wellies and up 'yer legs!

Much over stomach deep and it's wetsuit territory - yuk!

(I suppose a decent fur coat would mean you could dispense with the undersuit and just go nekid under the oversuit?!)

Furry sometimes an overkill for short recce looks and cheaper I spose.

Slightly off topic... Steaming problems, I wonder which would be best to overcome steaming when your trying to take a picture.

I tried gaffa-taping overtrousers to my wellies to make a cheap pair of waders, and it worked in Rampgill.......................for 2 mins

I might try silicone sealant next, might work better.

Not clothing,but homemade.
Didn't fancy kipping in a tent,so,self-inflating mattress on it and I can sleep in the dry.

I have Brit friends who order their outdoor kit from here www.mec.ca because even with shipping it's cheaper than local.

when I was about 7 my Mum made me a great waterproof jacket - made of parachute material - which comes in a variety of neon colours...it was sooo pretty :D

We sprayed the seams with waterproofing stuff and it was great!

i don't know if that's what you wanted to know though :)
