I’ve walked past this many times and often wondered if it is worth digging out, it looks like it has been filled in rather than suffered a collapse, perhaps someone on here might know more about it?

I think that may be a limekiln raking arch rather than a mine level - haven't walked up that road for a while but there are a few limekilns close to where veins come down the daleside and I've a feeling that's one of them.

I know this area pretty well and would agree with AR about the limekiln. The location doesn't correspond with any vein lines marked on the bar masters map or workings for an adit to exist , the nearest is further down the road, visable in the qaurry face in the nature reserve which could be working on south thumper sitch.very interesting area.
