I suspect it was risk assessed as "safe", used with confidence in its safety, then described as "dangerous" in the video title simply as clickbait to increase views.

I too suspect this is the case, watching the video when the traverse is reached it is actually described as 'quite simple' and 'not too bad'. The clickbait element is only really in the thumbnail and description.

Being pedantic it might be more accurate to describe the traverse as 'hazardous', the drop is clearly substantial enough to to cause real harm if you fell so there is a clear hazard. It would be inaccurate to describe it as 'risky' since if the traverse is rigged well and used correctly there is no risk of harm from the hazard.

Dangerous has a less clear definition, I found a few, but this one seems reasonable;

dangerous, hazardous, precarious, perilous, risky mean bringing or involving the chance of loss or injury. dangerous applies to something that may cause harm or loss unless dealt with carefully.

Like it or not I think thats a fair description of a traverse across a stope in an abandoned mine.

Now of course the general viewer will not be thinking in these terms and will be attracted simply by the prospect of watching something that is exciting because of the "danger"

I broadly agree that we don't want to be presented as adrenaline junky risk takers however a bit of titillation to attract a wider audience to a video that ultimately shows responsible exploring might not be the worst thing  :-\ a general viewer who watches a few of these and then goes back to watching EWF videos may find themselves less impressed  :-\

Just thinking out loud but I'm wondering if this is the line of thinking

"Tongue-in-cheek" you mean...?

Possible!

Hopefully that is how it was intended  :)

I suppose:

?Amazing mine opened via traverse that would have been dangerous had we not rigged it properly?

doesn?t have the same ?ring? to it.

Yes but would make more sense and not attract trouble.

How about "Amazing mine discovered by difficult and challenging ropework"

all is forgiven, even EWF.

Just check this out

I have just come to the rather fatalist conclusion I am wasting my time. These idiots deserve the "Golden Coffin" award. They beat everyone else hands down.
Its Watersaw Mine in Derbyshire, its even a rather sensitive site.
Thinking about it, when everywhere is sealed up the videos will be all we have left.

Like I say, we may as well just give up these videos. I thought that I could somehow do something, I now see that I cant.
Its all out of control and nothing we can do about it.

The guy with the flowery bag appears to be the slightly more intelligent member of a rather dim crew, as he suggests leaving - the only smart comment in the entire shitshow. I actually want these guys to get stuck. Rescue would be better than death, as then we could get to watch the entire video of them begging for mercy in pools of their own piss. At least.

You could always make your own YouTube channel Roy, after all, if you can't beat 'em, might as well join 'em

If anyone decides to imitate you (either underground or experimenting with recreating the sun), consider it a fast-track natural selection process  (y)

I was going to say there is not a single helmet in sight, Oh wait yeah there is there's four of them in that mine with no head protection  ;)  ;)

But seriously, I've never been there, any chance of a little info on what kind of mine it is and why it's a sensitive site please?  (y)

The waters have cleared somewhat now regarding the legal and other positions regarding the original thread subject. As such I perceive a better way of handling the situation, I dont always get things right first time, although i always act in what I feel is the best interests of the mine exploration and mining history community.

As such, I now feel that this thread in its present form may be adding to the problem, and as such I would like to prune it back to remove all references to the subject of my first posting. I will leave in the Watersaw crowd obviously and the thread can continue to discuss these issues.

If anyone who has added to this thread objects please say so, but I want to get this done later today or tomorrow.

Thread suitably pruned
There are some good points made which I have left as much as is possible. If anyone feels their post is now out of context and would like it removing or editing, please just ask.

No problem - these guys are way more suitable for a discussion, and the thread title is much more relevant now :)

To my mind, the most stupid thing among a catalogue of stupidity is that they showed the location AND exactly how they got in, double stupidity
That means the route will get sealed up for others.
Selfish ****!

More to the point, there doesn't seem to be much there stopping them getting in. From the video it appears it won't be too long before it does that to itself. It's not on my bucket list :)

The main decline or roadway winds downwards for about a hundred metres or so, All branches off are collapsed. There was a new heading started by the last operating company, but this was abandoned. By the look of things I would say that its unlikely to get started up again. If it gets sealed with concrete or whatever, its no big loss to explorers as there is nothing really in there. Some nice examples of ring arching, but that's about it.
Its just a matter of time before it all comes down.
