Sounds from your description like Window Aven - partly climbed by the CPC in the 1970s then finished by the NCC in the 1980s (to enter Charolais Chamber etc). It's best to assume any existing ropes are not safe.

I went up and a had a look around a few weeks ago.

The first rope/anchors aren't in too bad condition but the carabiner/bolt on the re-belay at the ledge on the next pitch are very rusty so great care is needed - don't bounce around on the rope too much! Also the rope rubs on the walls because the bolt has been badly placed.

There is a rather tight squeeze to get into the little chamber at the top which I didn't go into (because I have broad shoulders rather than a fat belly) so I'm not sure about the state of the anchors there.

I might go and rebolt it soon and will let you know when it is a bit safer.

Also wondering -

Was recently looking down towards Toyland because it was there - the survey shows a climb up on the right to Toyland which we found, and a passage on the left leading past a dig to a Tjunc. Which we couldn't find. Can anyone describe what we were looking for.

The dig was obvious, and went and went till I got really boredand out of time. Does it actually go anywhere or just close down eventually? there was a breeze on the day I was there.

But we couldn't find anything remotely like the T junct just the dig.

Not sure what the T-junction looks like (I guess it's quite low and probably obscure), we went past it without noticing it when we were following that never-ending dig! There was an article about the dig in Descent quite a bit back, think they used water power..? After following the passage for some time we eventually reached a nice climb and decided to call it a day, I think from memory of the article theres a few bits of passage up there but they all end in some way or another. Unless of course someone is continuing to dig up there..

I think that you may be referring to the main was through to Carrot Passage. Before the dig was transmogrified into an enormous passage, the way on to Carrot Passage was the obvious route - now it's probably less so. If I remember correctly, it's a small passage descending under the left hand wall (going in).

I am happy to be corrected, however. I haven't been there for a few years.
