Hey all,

Odd one but is anyone selling a "Cheapish" Project Land Rover 110/130?
Looking for a TD5 Engine, not to fussed about the condition as long as the engine worksish...

Need it for a caving project to use as a base in Morocco/Tunisia!!

Might be worth looking at Nissan for that region.

Especially if you can get an old Patrol

I had a patrol for years, it’s got a Isuzu engine (bomb proof) pulled a 7.5ton lorry up hill once with no problems at all.

Remember the old adage. If you want to go into the desert take a Land Rover. If you want to come back take a Toyota!

Aren't they proven to be shit heaps? Toyota are King, so I was led to believe. My brother had a LWB LR back in the day and it spent more time on axle stands than it ever did on its wheels. Some of the UK caving demographic seem to own LRs as a kind of macho badge of status. Reminds me of the Fast Show.

My 2A SWB Land Rover never let me down in all the years I owned it. It's still trundling around Derbyshire and had its 60th birthday a couple of years ago. I wonder how many other marques will still be on the road >60 years henceforth?
That's if the (unelected) WEF haven't taken away all our freedoms by then. One is reminded of these lyrics:

Reminds me of something I read a while back; two-thirds of all the Landies ever built are still on the road, which I don't think any other vehicle which was in production for nearly 70 years can come near! I also recall a mate who was an enthusiast commenting that "Land Rovers are forever in need of something doing to them but if you do the somethings, they'll go on forever. Japanese fourbies won't need anything doing to them for 20 years, but then everything will fail at once"

No connection to me but this has just popped up in my local buy and sell cars on Facebook :-

1996 Land Rover Defender 110 Hicap Hi-Capacity 300Tdi Pick Up Barn Find
Runs and drives, engine and gearbox good. High and low all working as it should. Starts first time every time. 156,000 miles.
Was removed from a clearance after previous owner sadly passed. V5 will need to be applied for and a new lock set will be needed. Can still be seen running. Chassis is solid. Bulkhead seems solid. Clutch pedal has gone to the floor where it’s been parked up, clutch fluid gone to jelly.
Been off the road and in a barn since around June 2017.
Full receipt will be given.
Selling because I have too many projects on the go.
Price is £4500 NO OFFERS. NO OFFERS.
May consider a part ex.
Local Delivery available.
Located in Henstridge Somerset.

Have you considered a discovery? You'll get the same TD5 engine, basically the same off-road ability (if you're not precious about the bodywork) and it will be half the price of a defender. The chassis rusts like it's been bathed in sea water, but that might not be an issue in dry desert conditions. Also, you'll not be constantly banging your elbow.

Good advice there.

My current Discovery TD5 was £1,800, with 8 months MOT, albeit I had to weld up the rear chassis and sort the brakes. Try buying a Defender for that!

The back door is actually bigger than the back door on a Defender, so you can fit bigger stuff in. It's much more comfortable inside too.

The TD5's don't tend to rust too badly on the body-shell, so it's mostly just the chassis you'll need to be fixing, which is pretty easy if you have access to a welder.

If you want a 4.0 V8 Disco, there is a caver in the Bristol area who is selling one (gas converted too).

Edit: also, one of my neighbours (the bloke who bought my old house as it happens) is looking to shift one of his TD5 Discos. Currently needs the interior putting back in and front bumper back on before it goes for MOT. It's a solid one though.
