Just to follow up Anfield Man's write up -this was the other cave the ISSA members did at the weekend. Apart from the entrance being the most difficult bit (the bolt was really tricky to open) OCyF was a spectacular cave with just right amount of squeezes, climbs and wet crawls and cavernous strolls and slippery mud which made it almost the perfect cave. We counted some 14 bats in the entrance series it was notably pretty picture postcard stuff with zillions of straws. We struggled a little on the aven with the slippery climb up a fixed ladder and fixed rope and chain. I think we probably complicated things a bit by adding a ladder to the equation and all present found the level of tackle rather over the top. Oh well you live and learn. Once past this there was the spiral squeeze up until we broke into the main chamber leading to the Hall of the Mountain King. I must say the conservators of the cave have done a great job of taping off all the special areas, preserving the mud, decorations and gour pools. Obviously we were all amazed by the cave, The hardened artists spent some time sketching and taking photos whilst the rest of us briefly explored the tunnels such as Severn Tunnel leading off beyond.
Issa trips are often really fun and this was not an acception, our weekend at Pwll Du Centre was really lovely, excellent facilities and well worth the money- even if a little more than most cave huts it was good for those partners who were less caving orientated.
All in all a great weekend.
