Issues with Unread Posts

I think people are probably happily using the "Show unread posts since your last visit" link without realising that it isn't in fact showing all the posts, just the later ones, and they think it's working fine.

I'm finding this really difficult to understand. What are we missing? Earlier but unread posts in a topic?Whole topics with unread posts?

I haven't noticed missing things  - I haven't later discovered posts that I've not read, or threads that I hadn't seen - so I'm finding very hard to understand what it is that I might be missing.

If I just use the "Show unread posts since your last visit" I can easily miss whole topics as well as replies to topics I have looked at.

Not sure if it's just my machine.

As I said earlier it's not a big problem, and the workround is to use the "Show all Unread Posts" link on the right of the screen that appears when you hit "Show unread posts since your last visit"

Talking of missing links anyone any idea what the "Link to calendar" one is supposed to do?

Thanks  No, that's not something I've been aware of happening. My impression is that it works as it should. I think if I wasn't getting everything, the amount of time I spend on here, I'd have started noticing things that I'd missed previously.
