What lies at the bottom of Hut Shaft (the big one near the Adit entrance) is mystery - it was open , it has been descended but has a lot of rubbish/fill at the bottom. A fine looking shaft that leads (according to one incomplete survey to "extensive caverns".

What lies at the bottom of Hut shaft is not a mystery it is just that the survey has not been published.

Hi Kitty (or anyone else who can help),

Do you have this unpublished survery available to share?

The only written detail I can find suggests, that it is 20m deep and blind [Jug Holes Intrepretation Pack] and full of rubbish [various forum posts] - so to hear of an unpublished survery is intriguing.

Also, does anybody know why the lid was welded shut?

Thanks,
Pipster.

I knew I'd seen this somewhere!

Hope it's useful. It sounds like quite an interesting place, especially with its proximity to Jug Holes.

Hi Pipster

I have recently moved house so it will take me some time to dig out a more accurate survey (its in one of many boxes) that we carried out in the late 1980's and 1990's via an alternative route. This also shows how it relates to Jug Holes and other workings in the area.

We left an unsurveyed lead and a promising dig before I got too fat and broken (the connection is pretty desperate unless you are very thin and flexible.)  to carry on with this project and it would be nice if someone could carry on with it. PM me if you would like to chat about this over a beer.

Regards

Hi John,

Fantastic! Thanks very much for taking the time to find/scan/post them!  :)

It does look interesting; a shame it's no longer accessible. It sounds like there is approx 10m of fill at the bottom of shaft at the minute.

Thanks,
Phil.
