The boulder choke also is worth a little explore too. Take care with route and leave a concise call-out message!!!  :spank: .
Don't leave it littered with snap / glow sticks as has happened in the past.

Given that there is plenty to go at ,when was the last time anyone actively dug in jug holes?we connected jug holes to a seperate working a couple of years ago with some good looking leads.

Hi Markpot

Op Mole haven't dug within Jug Holes since the 1980's although we have been active close by. At that time there was one instance where a dig was trashed and another where some deliberately buried tools were stolen in the space of a few days. SSSI status and a landowner who preferred to pretend cavers didn't exist have complicated matters since then so we just moved to less problematic sites.

Someone was digging just inside the upper mine workings in the 1990's but this seemed to be quickly abandoned.

There are still some good potential leads within Jug Holes and I would be happy to cooperate with anyone who could get suitable permission.

I would be interested to hear about your digging if you are willing to share information.

I am aware of the digging in the upper area and the activity near by,to be clear we did no digging, just ALOT of furtlting  and poking about and the odd jostick test and surface walk. Its a superb area with alot of potential. We had a very constructive chat with the farmer who was very posative about exploration of adjacent shafts and showed a posative interest in what we were doing. Might be worth putting abit more effort in.has anyone been over the flowstone in the whole in the roof near the sump in the upper series?looks like there might be something of worth there but would require a change to clean oversuits.

Can i ask the location of the dig that was trashed?i think i know but confirmation would be interesting. Stolen tools?sounds like an inside job

At the top of the flow stone near the Shrine there's a tight potential way on with watwr flowing down it. Would be interesting to know where that goes and where the water originates from

Our dig that was trashed was in the chamber between the 4th and 5th water caverns. Its on the right as you enter from the 5th water cavern and was heading under the floor of the 4th water cavern. Doug Nash dug there in the 1950's and I continued it after reopening the adit and putting in the oil drum entrance in the early 1980's.

I was also  gigging at the back of the 5th water cavern which is when our tools were stolen. this was in the base of a pitch the back right hand corner which still has potential.

I m of the opinion that much of the old mans workings were below the currently known system,

There re  couple of potential sites in this area but it would be very difficult to dig them without causing more damage to the flowstone and potentially disturbing the significant  bat colony.

These flowstone slopes were once white and much more beautiful but have suffered partly due to thoughtless cavers but also when fluorspar mining in the 1950's changed the location of the surface sink diverting some of the flow away from the beehive slopes.
