Myself and a Friend are off to have a look around Jug Holes on Monday 4Th October.
It was the second caving trip i went on at the beginning of this year with a small club i joined. i liked it and I'm hoping to tack my 2 young daughters there in there half term holidays.  They have only been a short distance down Carlswark before, altho they said it was a bit boring they still enjoyed it.

Is any one free on Monday who knows the cave to give a guided tor?

Is anyone thinking of tacking there little ones caving at half term and would like to join us?

A bit late notice for myself, but there may be one or two people in our club who could be free. Pm me for details.

If you are taking kids, especially little ones, then through the adit and into the first chamber (which is 5th water cavern) and then to the next mined smaller chamber and back out is best. There's a tricky climb after that into 4th water cavern which you could overcome with one adult at the top and one at the bottom and a safety rope for the tinies.

Between the 4th and 3rd water caverns is a slippy scramble/slide that may present problems - mainly as there is a large drop off to one side - another rope/lifeline is useful.

Then another 20 ft climb from 3rd water cavern into 2nd cavern - which is where the main big entrance is. This is freeclimable with care or ladder/lifeline.

There is a small complex of safe mine workings at the back left hand side of the main entrance (2nd water cavern) , but be careful of the hidden 3m shaft to the right hand side behind the boulder.

This shaft needs a climbing rope or ladder and leads to the natural caverns with impressive beehive slopes, route finding is relatively easy and there is a little stream at the bottom. Further up the beehive slopes is a jumble of breakdown in little chambers - be careful if exploring.

There is a survey here: http://www.peakcavemonitoring.org.uk/images/stories/Masson_Hill/Jug%20Holes_06.doc

I am happy to give my little lad a go and am extremely local to Jug Holes, but he is only three, but it is time he started caving! So if you need a local guide - maybe you could get Ttxela and his daughter Summer along, I remember guiding those two around a few years ago - how about it Alex, it's a holiday!
