Hi all.
Does anyone know what the rope length for the pitch at jug holes it.
I was going to take a 30 and hope for the best as I cant find it anywhere!
The wife requires some srt training again.

When you talk about the pitch, do you mean the short climb out of the lower series (not the best place for SRT practise) or the short shaft dropping in next to 5th Water Cavern (which is ideal). Are you talking about a 30ft or 30m rope? For the shaft you would need a bit more than 30ft.

I know little of SRT but I do know something of wives. I would recommend avoiding the use of the phrase "hope for the best" when discussing any planned activities.  :sneaky:

No im on about  the pitch that drops from the top of the arch of the entrance.
Therr is p hangers there. Its used for srt practice,
I do mean 30 meters.
Rigging rules- allow 10 meters for rigging traverse lines and knots. Plus whatever the pitch its self is.
Im sure im telling you things you already know though

Then my advice is forget about that spot, far from ideal, and drop down the hill a little more till you find a shaft off on the right with a broken fence around it, perfect for a bit of easy up and down practice - no special equipment needed to raise lid. 30ms of rope will be more than ample which ever venue you choose.

Don't forget to tie a great big knot in the end of the rope . . . . . and hope that 'the wife' can change over from going down to going up. ;)

It may be worth considering a visit to Devonshire mine. It has 2 training pitches near the old upper entrance. A 30m rope would be more than ample, as would a 20m.

Plus you drop into the horizontal passage leading from the nearby Adit Entrance so you can abseil down and go out that way (if the bolt on the gate is unlocked previously). Very handy if you abseil down the pitch leaving your jammer and footloop on the surface...

Is 'The Dev' not off limits at present?
See other thread. (y)

Not off limits, just a little troublesome, DCA working on the problem, it takes time, I'm sure they would appreciate your input O.G., please contact them!!

It might be as well to avoid Devonshire just for the moment until the gate has been fixed and things are back to normal.  Things may be a little touchy around the area if the cave has recently been used for druggie parties - plus you wouldn't want to meet these people underground!

Once the gate has been sorted you will just need a large adjustable spanner to undo the bolt the get in and there are some good SRT training pitches in there.

Hi all.  Thanks for the input (y)

A little off subject but while driving back from a trip today I noticed that the old dig on worm hill has now been gated.

What cave is it??

If you mean the dig at the top side of the road above Crowdecote, that's Democratic Dig - see CoPD p.172 and photo opposite.  Gated by Orpheus C. C. at the request of the Parish Council because of alleged danger to children - needs a spanner to undo the gate.  Note that CoPD gives the grid ref. as 102 652 but I rather think that's not quite correct; it's nearer 105 650.

The disused shaft further up the hill, below Bank Top Farm is unclear on the map but looks as if it might be something like grid ref. 107 653.
