Hey all, I've heard today that you can now do a through trip from king mine to sandford levvy, can anyone confirm or deny this?

No connexions between Sandford, Pearl or King at present.  A connection between Sandford and King would be most unlikely, King Mine being associated with the mineral vein seen just outside the entrance to Sandford Levvy.

Pearl Mine lies on the same vein as the workings at First Crossroads in Sandford Levvy.  The gap between these workings has been significantly closed in the last month due to the discovery of 100m of 18th Century workings in Sandford Levvy (The extensions are still being explored and anyone wishing to visit is asked to contact the MCG diggers to prevent them entombing themselves as there is much stabilisation still to do, and some parts are really scary).  The precise distance between the new extensions and Pearl Mine is still uncertain as Pearl does not appear to have ever been accurately surveyed (the entrance has been blocked since 1970), but appears to be as little as 15m.  However at present there is no obvious lead heading in the direction of Pearl.  We do however have a major shaft leading up towards the surface, choked some 25m up.  With some work this might connect to one of the other shafts on the hillside above.  However the top of "Hancock's Shaft", as we are calling it , is still 15-20m below the level of the surface, and the surface shaft is currently 5m deep (what may be the same shaft was descended in 1948 for 15m depth to a choke).

So, unless another team has been doing some serious work on Sandford Hill, there is no through trip yet...

Sounds like you've been doing some serious work up there! Thanks for the information, Ed. I take it thats up the hole with the piece of rope, on the right hand at the crossways  in sanford levvy? I did think a connection between King mine and Sandford levvy was unlikely, It was just something a mate mentioned in discussion today, and I thought if anyone knew they'd be on here.
