lamb leer. Is it open?

I have heard, and seen, that the Lamb leer entrance is filled in. There are rumours that it has been closed for 20 or more years.
This being said.... Why am i hearing information that suggests a survey was done about 3 or 4 years ago in Lamb leer? Also there is speak of a dig entrance not a few yards away that does go into the cave. Is this true?

Lamb Leer is currently closed by the land owner.
I wasn't aware that the entrance had been infilled though, are you sure it has, or is it just dirt and leaves washed over it, due to not being used?

There is no other entrance to Lamb Leer currently, however there is a dig nearby that has the prospect of breaking into the cave at some point, if they can solve the flooding problems they experience each winter...

There was a trip down Lamb Leer about 10 years ago to allow the landowner and his family to see it.
The basis reason for the closure is because there is a lot more money to be made out of using the sight for motorsport.

About 10 years ago CSCC/AONB/English Nature contacted the landowner to enquire whether there were any trips likely to be undertaken to LL - this would have enabled the statutory requirement of checking a few of the cave's SSSI features. The answer was short and negative. Looks like the audit could have been done after all. Shame. It was one of only two sites that CSCC were unable to check on behalf of English Nature.

SMCC are digging Gibbet's Brow which is the dig site i assume you are referring to so best to contact them if you would like more information on the dig.

Lamb Leer is a very fine cave and it's a tragedy if there's currently no access. (I remember going in there as a kid with Black Wal - now there was a character!)

We have had some success with a similar problem, where the farmer was rather entrenched, in the Dales. A certain person who works for Natural England was quite persuasive; it's maybe worth keep trying? After all NE will want the site to be monitored, which can only be done if people go in there.

Best of luck with it.
