Langcliffe or Odmire

I did Odimre a few years ago with RRCPC and was wondering if Langcliffe entrance was better than Odmire?

Is the Odmire entrance as wet as Langcliffe? Many years ago, after carrying some diving gear as far as the top of Nemesis, we had trouble getting back up the Langcliffe entrance pitch due to a flash flood. You could probably rig it a lot better than we did but it would be nice to know if Odmire is any better in this respect.

Is Odmire entrance a pitch, then? If so, how deep and is it likely to become impassable in flood?

From langcliffe's (the person, that is) description, it sounds as though Odmire is the easier option. My recollection of Langcliffe is that there was a fair bit of crawling before it got bigger and even after that it is all pretty dark and dismal (also wet and cold). It's a good cave mind, although lugging diving bottles around and then having to race out with the water rising doesn't really help you appreciate the finer points.

I guess it all depends what you are looking for when you say you are wondering if it is any better.

Oddmire is a shorter pitch so when knackered its less daunting. Lancliffe has quite a crawl as well. I can recall exiting after another party which had left our double lifeline (yes we were on ladders) under the top rungs of the ladder. This then meant the lifeline could not be used and the first person (muggin here) up had to climb without a line. Really good fun after a long trip to Dementor Sump. Of all the trips we did, we only once used Lancliffe, Oddmire was fine even when it got a bit wet but we did cancel trips when it was too wet, the Nemesis choke did change over the years. (has anyone found a texalex helmet in the choke, we lost one in the mid 80's  :-[ )

Seem to remember the texalex was mine. Tony Malcolm(CUCC) generously brought it out on a subsequent trip.

Thought you might pick that up Andy  ;)

I've done the Langcliffe entrance twice and the rest of my trips via Oddmire. Oddmire is marginally easier (shorter, looser more broken pitch and marginally less crawling) but after a trip beyond Nemesis there really isn't a lot of difference overall.

If you get bored or think the standard trip is not long enough, the upstream loop via The Roads and Skirfare Inlet is quite nice but much longer than the standard route to Boireau Falls Chamber.

Hope someone eventually makes a breakthrough here and finds the way on towards the splendid (if aqueous) finds behind Black Keld.

PS Hello John, long time no see!
