It's easy to avoid the Dales' fleshpots. Mallerstang, Wild Boar Fell and the Orton Fells are calling. They will be empty as usual.

Surface prospecting might be the order of the day.  There are some big gaps in drainage to be explored in the dales away from the 3 counties etc.  And it?s dry too.
The bogs of lovely seat and to the the east of it spring to mind.

I have very mixed feeling on this, on the one hand I fully understand the feelings of those living in National Parks and their unease at this new advice.

On the other hand I have been fighting my natural urges to jump in the car and head for the hills, especially when things get a bit on top of me, reminding myself that I must be a good chap and wait until the official advice tells me this is OK - and that I have done, thinking how good it will feel to be free to go back to the freedom of the areas I love to visit.

Well now it seems that moment has come - except every man and his dog is saying, directly or indirectly, that I would be foolish/inconsiderate/selfish to take advantage of it. They may well be right and on balance I'll probably leave it a bit longer. However it's a strange shift to be no longer restricted by official policy but now by popular opinion and social pressure...
