Milwr tunnel

The Grosvenor Caving Club control the access into Halkyn Mine via the Olwyn Goch Shaft. Hope this helps.

How far can you get down this tunnel these days, assuming you are allowed entry?

It looks an amazing place - can you still get 10 miles inside?

You need to contact Steven Brown, Grosvenor Caving Club.
I expect Jackalpup may reply soon as well. He may have more info.

Bubba, you can get from Loggerheads (furthest point south) all the way north to the Powels Lode branch (about 5 miles I think) after that there is no path on the side of the level so you need to swim or boat. I believe it has been traversed all the way north to the sea but the access agreement specifically forbids this.  :(

I love the pics but i think Miles has been using a bit too much saturation in photoshop or something ;)

Sounds like a great trip though :)

Well worth a trip ,went there a few years back with the ISSA lot along the tunnel then to Powels Lode. Fantastic mycelium growing of the damp and wet timbers. If I remeber right ther are 23 ladders on the side of the shaft also it was a bit hard walking back against the flow of water in the tunnel

Cavegod,

Les_W is spot on with the contact name, it is Steve Brown - I'll PM you his phone number and also the number for the secretary just in case you struggle.

(I have not yet forgotten the look on your face Les when you met the troll in Pepe's shaft )

The Milwr tunnel is a fantastic place with a number of different trips (Limestone workings, lead workings, Powell's lode etc.) with miles & miles of passageways. I guess you've been googling though  (y)

There are goblins down there so be prepared ....

;)

The trip South from the portal to Powells lode & back was done (unofficially!) by some past Crewe members in the mid 80s.
The section from Powells lode is controlled & maintained by Welsh Water (or what ever they're called this week). This section had a lot of work done on it by AMC (the mining & tunneling contractors) around 2000, when access was gained by refurbishing Heywards shaft.
As Les says, Grosvenors agreement does not cover the section outbye from Powells and I've heard the the portal is watched!.
