Minerals, Rocks and Gemstones by Rudolf Borner (1962) First Edition.
Complete with the original dust jacket, this is a collector?s gem (pun intended).
This book is not to be confused with similar and later published versions aimed at the novice gemstone collector. Significantly more of a reference, there is a detail analysis of each mineral, rock and gemstone including;
? Chemical Composition / Formula
? Associates
? Hardness
? Occurrences
? Localities
? Uses
There are sketch diagrams of each structure as well as full colour photographs of numerous examples.
This publication does not stop there; Also included are various tables for identification, absorption (that?s an interesting aspect) and optical properties. There is also a substantial amount of background information ? how the Earth was formed and so forth ? the kind of information we all couldn?t really get our heads around at school!
Although dated, its relevance is better and more detailed than many of its modern counterparts.
Splendid caver?s friend.
