Nare River TV Program

I've got a vague memory of, probably a World About Us episode of the British Nare River expedition. I recall Gillette grappling irons being used to cross the raging whitewater.
No amount of searching has yielded a result, so if anyone knows of where or even what the program was called, any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Doesn't seem to be part of The World About Us (they had 2 programmes covering Sid Perou's The Lost River of Gaping Gill in 1984)

I was on the Untamed River Expedition of 1984 to continue exploring the Nare River Cave and others in the area. The 'book' in the link above was just the expedition report compiled by Dave Gill the exped leader. There was a book of the French expedition called "L'abime sous le jungle" - I lent my copy to someone years ago and never got it back. There was also a French film of their early trip which came out on Antenna 2 network I think. Got it on VHS but have never seen it anywhere else. We didn't do any filming on our trip so I am assuming you are thinking of a French film.

Just out is John Paul Sounier's book, authored with Dave Gill and others. See the link which has some great photos

Must get a copy.

There were also a couple of articles in the Sunday Express magazine which showed Dave Gill with the grapnel launcher and several people floundering in very bad-tempered water.

I remember being shit-scared when Dave invited me and showed me that French film, but it turned out to be the best thing I ever did!
Oh, and it was Wilkinson Sword that made us the grappling irons :)

Thanks for the all the replies gang. It's really niggling where I saw footage of the grappling irons in action.

I'm waiting for my copy... In response to Pony, we didn't get any movie film of the grapnel in use in Nare. There was a bit of film on the surface, some at the foot of the entrance shaft and a very small amount underground but (a) I don't think grapnels were ever involved and (b) I'm not sure it was ever turned into a film that was made available to anyone.

The only pictures I'm aware of that showed grapnels were in Dave's report and the Sunday Express magazine. However, there was a later trip to Nakanai which explored Ora (among other things) - did that show grapnels?

This was one of the non-stainless steel grapnel irons - sadly most of them were a bit too bendy! Dave Gill's claw holding it.

The book has arrived - very efficient service! It's full of spectacular, beautiful photographs of wonderful caves. Highly recommended for these alone. It's a little light on exploratory detail and some of the English translations are a little eccentric, but overall, it's very inspiring. My main regret is that I only went there once: there are so many fantastic caves I haven't seen - I'm particularly jealous of those who explored Magueni (also Muruk, but it would have scared me witless)...
