Nemesis

On a trip down Oddmire on Saturday we were thwarted by water in Nemesis choke. I know water levels aren't super-low currently, but I was surprised after water levels in the entrance crawls, Boireau Falls Chamber and Nemesis pitch seemed as I'd experienced before, but the choke involved a helmet-off, full on duck. We wondered if there has been some movement in there that is causing water to back up a bit currently (or maybe I'm just going soft and have repressed a few memories). If anyone visits do bear this in mind, and please do post on the forum about the state you find it in. Just for info, there is still an in-situ rope at the top of Nemesis pitch - it just needs two connectors to rig it. It was in perfectly good condition on Saturday.

I believe this part of the choke is quite mobile and if you look into any of the chambers as you come back upstream you can see why, having to digging your way through isn't surprising.

Last time I went through was in 2023, September I think, and I definitely didn't do a helmet off duck, though you do have to get right in the water. The choke was as I remembered from 2016, my only other time all the way through. I was once also thwarted by high water in this choke, in January 2021, and also felt that the colder water made it feel more intimidating.

Of all the times i’ve been through Nemesis - with a decent gap, that is - 07,10,16. It’s been different every time. And to be expected I guess.
