New Book - Peak Rock

In memory of one of my idols of cave photography; the late Giles Barker, I'd like to introduce people to a great new book entitled Peak Rock

Giles Barker lost his life while caving in Spain in 1992. He was an accomplished cave photographer and a member of the Red Rose CPC and Morgannwg CC. These clubs have annually, since 1993, presented the Giles Barker Award in his memory at the BCRA Hidden Earth conference. This book is a celebration of significant developments at the cutting edge of rock climbing in the Peak District, from the day that James W Puttrell first set foot on rock at Wharncliffe in the late nineteenth century, through to modern day ascents on the area?s gritstone and limestone crags.

For only ?37.95 you can get your copy from Vertebrate Publishing - http://www.v-publishing.co.uk/

I've ordered mine!  :)

:coffee: ...I should probably point out, as it might help make the connection between Giles and this book, that Giles first started work on Peak Rock ? then titled Peak Performance ? in the early 1980s, before progress was halted by his premature death in 1992. It was almost twenty years before Phil Kelly picked up where Giles left off, pulling together Giles? original research and interviews, which were stored at the Mountain Heritage Trust. Phil enlisted Graham Hoey to work on the book, updating the manuscript with their own interview material and other primary source information, writing a number of missing chapters and also adding a number of chapters, including the significant developments of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Yes... there's a nice section about Giles in the intro; he really did pave the way for an important book before his untimely death.
Just to be clear- when I said 'worth the wait', I was referring to the fact that I pre ordered the book a couple of months ago
