Ladies and Gentlemen

At considerable risk to life and limb, a clandestine source has managed to smuggle out a sneek peek at the new up and coming Cave Safe IV....

...Obviously attempting to appeal to a broader European market, the sample clip below appears to be from a new section highlighting the need to practice on the surface before going down (ahem) underground.... ::)

I am sure that given the nature of the forum there will be many differing views on technique, protection and I am sure Bob M will have something to say about the dynamics of static rope....

Click on the link below, alas it isn't UTube so you'll have to download it first.

Her prussiking technique is awful, she's not trapping the rope with her feet so she just doesn't manage to move anywhere.

At least he had a hard lock applied.

etc.

I note that they both thread their descenders wrongly but still fail to plummet to their deaths.  :-\

Nah, hers is threaded up properly when she's on the rope, I freeze framed it to check at about 1:56.

I wonder how they were talked into it.

"Ok, what you do is wear this harness, yeah its like the one in your bedroom yeah, anyway... This is a Petzl STOP and its an advanced peace of equipment, or so I'm told by our technical people... Yeah that guy, the one in the corner drinking the potholer... No its a beer love not some kind of position..."

She defiantly threaded it wrongly but clearly their expert instructor corrected it before she went over the edge.

This script was written by a male wasn't it.

It is amazing what you can do with digital stuff these days. After all, no woman would really do that and be able to pretend that she was enjoying it.

Surely.

It begs the question - WHY?
Well, we are told to practice SRT technique above ground before taking it underground so maybe they are just a couple of responsible people who watched Andy Sparrows videos.

Maybe the next video will feature Rhino Rift!

Hah nice find. Seems like it would appeal to a small audience, but obviously they felt confident enough that it would be worth it.

Heres a pic taken from the time you say:

I cant see how shes threaded it incorrectly. the up part comes in on the left, the down part goes out at the top right. Do you mean because she hasnt used a braking crab?

You're right, it appears to be threaded correctly  :-[

It was the ass backwards way she threaded it that threw me. She threads it from the bottom rope first.

Must say it's a great story & she seems like a nice girl. Shame we didn't get to see the end (of the story). I mean, did they manage to fix the bike? Ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. Perhaps there'll be a sequel?

As a training video I thought it was good, there were a few things that I would not have thought of.

I was impressed with the level of protection used on the rub points however there seemed to to a fair bit of bounce so it was a good thing there was such a level of protection on the rope.

I was also impressed with the idea that two people can do it together, I usually do it on my own.

Having used such good protection on the rope they then failed to use protection on the rub points. chafing in this area could have so easily been avoided.
This forum is a great way to keep up to date with modern techniques. or so i tell my better half.  :ang:
