If you want to see a big cavern, it's not long until the BPC run their Gaping Gill winch meet, on the slopes of Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales.

For one week you can be lowered down the 100 metre entrance shaft on a winch: an amazing Main Chamber and then lots of passages to explore of all sizes without the need for much kit (just a set of cows-tails if you want to traverse South East Pot).

If you are interested, turn up early (some people arrive at 07:30, after an hour's walk up from Clapham!), there can be long queues. You can borrow a green oversuit and a helmet, bring your own headtorch and kneepads if you have a pair.

Thank you very wormy, I'm actually from morecambe, pleasantly suprised to hear that there are some around that area. I'll find those books. Thanks again.
