Notts 2 - Inlet 5

Was in Notts 2 today (suprised how dry it was cosidering the weather of the previous few days) and headed up into inlet 5.

We followed the route through the top passage and headed right past the large flowstone boss into a muddy crawl, the end of which emerged in a large fossil stream passage - where is this??

Looking at the survey - downstream from the end of the muddy crawl we were trending back towards committee Pot.

Anyone care to enlighten???

It's an Earby find, I believe, from last year or the one before that.

Downstream dived by a notable northern section member.

Put you on the right track now, I hope?

There was an article in a recent issue of Descent magazine describing a find which matches your description (from memory). A dig through liquid mud broke into significant stream passage of similar size to main Notts II streamway if I remember right?

Descent 194, Feb/Mar 07.

After breaking through the mud they found ~200m of large phreatic passage that runs parallel to the main stream.

Work was apparently continuing exploring the inlets and it was hoped a more detailed article would appear in a future issue.....
