"The Central Rescue Organisation, formed by eight potholding (sic) clubs and the Settle St. John Ambulance Brigade, has placed on a "black list" the following Ingleborough potholes - Meregill, near Chapel le Dale; Washfold and Juniper Gulf, near Horton-in-Ribblesdale; also Jingling Hole, on Fountains Fell. The reason is that rescue after a possible accident would be a terrible ordeal, and the evacuation of an injured person woud take a terrible length of time."
"Selgill Hole, to the north of Hull Pot, is described as one of the finest in North Ribblesdale. It's great chamber is second in size to that of Gaping Gill, being roughly 150 feet high, 100 feet wide, and 150 feet long. For a descent, however, 150 feet of rope-ladder and ropes are necessary.
There are several shafts on Gregareth Fell, near to Yordas Cave and Kingsdale; over the border in Lancashire is Lost John, a pot of great difficulty on Leck Fell, but in no case should scramblers venture alone into galleries and passages, some of which drop suddenly into potholes of terrifc depth."
