Has anyone actually managed to gain access to this cave recently? And if so how!? Or is anyone on here associated with NWCC that could provide information on dates of their winch meets as I was informed by email that it was more preferable means of access to the cave for other clubs.

I cant help you on acccess, other than I think it only happens a few times a year when there is a NWCC winch meet.

If you manage to get a trip down then do so, it's a totally brilliant cave and you wont get to repeat it too often!

We had a trip down there last May Bank Holiday when the NWCC were running their winch.

The NWCC lads did us proud and couldn't be more helpful. The weather was atrocious yet they still kept the winch running. It is a fabulous trip.

This link should provide you with the information you need.

Some of the conservation work photos are REALLY impressive! - perhaps Mendip could try and emulate them?

Especially this....

I'd love to see something similar done at the Lost/Found Cave of Loxton!!!!

Was down there a couple of weeks back.
Agree with what the others have said good cave and friendly helpful cavers. Some of our club were supposed to be going down there this weekend but apparently there may be a problem with the winch.

Unfortunately its about 2/3rds the way through and at the time i didnt have any good photos of the inside of the cave but it is stunning in places.....and muddy in others....
Fast forward youtube to approx 2/3rds
The north wales guys were superb, gave us a great trip including lots of the cave history and development....

Definitely do the round trip. It's not trivial, but it's a great trip, and the best bit is being winched out at the end (it would be a massive nuisance to have to prussik!)

Chris.
