Slightly off-topic, but when it comes to PVC suit repair, as well as the usual actions, rather than simply trying to weight the patch down, I've had really good results with the use of a dirty great bench vice.
All you need are a couple of flat bits of wood to face the jaws, some layers of newspaper to spread the load (and some extra patch-sized layers over the patch to concentrate the pressure on the whole patch rather than the rest of the material), crank the lever round, and leave until set.
