Pant Mawr Pot gps data

This weekend I borrowed a GPS (having left mine at home!!) and put in the coordinates  as per "the caves of south wales" for pant mawr.
The coordinates took me to a little gruff of moor approx 450m from the cave!! (it was terrible i tell you, I was forced to trudge up the nearest grassy slope in the glorious sunshine and revert to the old fashioned method of...using my eyes..... and the cairns on the path are a bit of a give away.....)

As the gps was borrowed im unable to check that it was set to the right datum thingy so does anyone know if the book is right and the gps wrong or vice versa. Thanks

A few years ago I walked up with  GPS using the grid reference from Cave sof South wales, and the GPS was saying 10m to go when stood at the fence around the hole.  I was pretty impressed!  It does sound like the unit was set to the wrong datum, usual culprit is leaving the datum as WGS84 when setting Ordnance Survey grid.

Cheers,

Ed

I can confirm (from making the same mistake) that the error is 450 metres in the one direction (eastings?) and 100 metres in the other (northings). Realised the mistake while reading coordinates on the GPS while concurrently tracking movements on memory map.
