Peak District Cave Exploration Prize 2025

The rules for the PDCEP have been updated for 2025. The name has been changed to the Peak District Cave & Mine Exploration Prize as in certain circumstances mines can now qualify. The requirements regarding conservation have also been updated. The new rules are available on the DCA website along with details of the prizes for each category. Go to https://thedca.org.uk/peak-district-cave-exploration-prize/ .

So, to clarify, the new rules include discovery of mined passage, but only at a new surface entrance. This seems to be only partially stated in the rules:
3 What mined passages qualify?
A mine whose existence has been known but the location of whose entrance has been lost in modern times and mines where the entrance location is known but which have not been entered in modern times due to collapse or other obstruction. As it is difficult to be precise about the exact criteria for this new category, anyone considering entering a mine dig in the competition is advised to first contact...
So if a previously unknown mine is found via digging underground within a known cave or mine, this would not be included? Even if it is a differently named mine or of a different era?

Asking for a friend... 😉

I think because there is a complex relationship between mine and cave in the Peak, applications like this would be considered on a case by case basis. However, I defer to the rule master in this case.... calling @mch
