In 1967 six of us went down Penyghent Pot Me and two other RRCPC-Roger Calvert (an Elvis looking person )and Ian Wilkinson and 3 others Happy Wanders Caving Club? Can anyone say if they were there/know who was?!!!
It was an unforgettable trip in the early days of home made wetsuits (that made us feel invincible -that and youth) When we got to rigging the last 2 pitches Niagara the noise was suddenly incredible - a flash flood -exit up the master cave not easy "Elvis" had to push me round a corner and I had to pull the "man mountain" round On the other side one of the lads was washed away --but was grabbed in by some one behind him .
The low bit at the end of the master cave (near Hunt pot inlet)it was head on the side and mouth and feel for the air space a serious long duck!!!!
The rest of the trip was a drama--fortunately the entrance crawl was "ok".
please let me know if you who was there Ive often wondered!!! (an account is in a Red Rose Cave +Pothole Club News Letter 20200
The "moral " is don't go down a wet cave on wet day
