Photos of my daughter's first caving trip 5th July 2014 Goatchurch cavern

After seeing some of the fantastic photos on here I thought I'd have a go myself, now I am a bit concerned about taking a DSLR caving, quite often it gets as far as the entrance before I decide it's too muddy or wet. I have thought about using a cheapo compact that I don't mind getting ruined but I never get round to it. Anyway, as I was going to the predominantly dry Goatchurch with my 3 year old (and as a memento of her first time underground) I thought I'd take my camera along and give it a go.

To be honest I may have taken her at too young an age, I was hoping to take her down Thistle & Runscar with her cousins at the end of August however my wife picked up a superman oversuit from Tesco this morning and said "It's so you can go caving Jessica", she replied "I only wanted to do caving once"......

I guess I'll have to watch this space, she might change her mind but I can't help but feel I may have put her off

The helmet is a Petzl Picchu and is ideal for young 'uns. I have in the past used a woolly hat under the size 1 spelios for her cousin's (IIRC the youngest was 6) but it wasn't an ideal fit, the Picchu fitted perfectly, Jessica had a bunch of stickers that she thought would look nice on her helmet

I took my daughter down a mine last summer, she was just under 4 years old. We did about an hour, has lots of biscuits, cake and warm drink. She loved it and is up for another trip this summer.

I've been hyping it up with a promise of bacon and beans cook up underground... still hooked and waiting for it, to the Ballroom Room in Smallcleugh for her 2nd trip.

I think a big part of it helped that we got her mum to come along for that first trip and a few other explorers that she knew. I also tell her about what I have been up to and show her photographs of the trips I've been doing.
