Polltullyvaragh, Co. Monaghan

Another new cave for Co. Monaghan!

A flood-debris blocked rift in the Tullyvaragh sink was opened in a few hours to give approximately 15 m of passage with a large rift chamber.

Tullyvaragh sink - river enters from the left and sinks in the floor (when there's some water!), Polltullyvaragh is entered through the rift on the right

Prospects are promising!  We hope that it will connect with the (now blocked) Poll'd.

Looks good - well done.
Do you know where it drains to, what do you think of the chances of further extensions?

The drainage is unnknown.  Local lore has Moylan Lough and the Blind Lough on the downstream route.  This is not proven, nor is the resurgence.  Dye tracing is really needed in the area.

There are about 50 to 80 straight-line metres between Polltullyvaragh and Poll'd, which we'd like to reach.  The terminal choke certainly looks diggable and will be started soon... :)
