Potholing on the telly last night

Dunno if anybody else saw BBC4 last night with some bits of vintage caving film in it?

If not the whole program can be found on BBC iPlayer:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00tnvnq/The_Yorkshire_Dales_on_Film/

There is a section on fell running & potholing starting at around 15 minutes in...

The first bit features the BPC GG Winch c.1981 - with Peter Purvis being accompanied by Geoff Crossley.

I also spotted Tony Waltham in one clip, and possibly Ben Lyon?

No doubt some more senior readers may be able to identify other caves & the places featured...

I think that most of it is concocted from Sid's films. I also spotted (I think) Tony Waltham, Dave Brook, and Mel Gascoyne; places include The Blowhole and The Font. I think I caught a glimpse of Jill Luckock's welly in Pippikin.

It does look about right - but just be slightly careful trying it head first (as in the film) as it's downhill and if it proves too tight or awkward it's not the easist thing to reverse. A certain well known BPC friend always used to advise doing it feet first on your back (going into the cave). For some reason I always find it easiest to do it feet first on my belly then, at the point when my kneecaps are screaming, I shuffle my legs rightwards and drop through easily. (Then again I'm tall and reasonably built, so head first may be perfectly OK for underfed racing snakes.)

I have always done it head first -  you can then see the way to drop down the calcite slope on the far side.
