Well it worked although the file was not rotated 90. Think you can see what I described.

Just to note that I do not polish my carbide collection.
Many years ago while I was a toolmaker in the jewellery trade I had this one 18 carat plated to be awarded annually at the SWCC for - I think - Old Codger Of The Year or it might have been Champion Fart Lighter.

But I liked it so much I kept it.

Would anybody have any premier carbide lamp parts that they no longer require please I am rebuilding one and need a few bits!!  Please message me if you can help

Hi, I start my talk to Scouts by lighting a Premier with the usual explosion. I find it helps to keep their attention in case you cause another explosion.

The base (carbide container) on mine is very fragile & needs replacing. This is one of the parts Caving Supplies no longer have. If anyone has a spare base I would be pleased if you could get in touch! idriswilliams@aol.com

Here are pictures of 2 Mk1's and 2 Mk 2 Premier lamps.
No 1 (L-R) shows a single top pin with the two notches where the 2 horizontal steadying pins would be.
No 2        shows an earlier version with just one thin horizontal pin left
No 3        shows a Mk 2 with the standard blade fitting
No 4        shows a Mk 2 with (standard) but elongated blade.
Over a period there were small variations to all the models, Name style, water lid shape, water adjust lever shape, etc,
Apart from the ecological concerns they give off a very nice soft diffused light for caving. I used them on both the 1964 and '67 Pearce Berger expeditions (11 days continuous underground) and the Pyrenean Ice caves as well as the UK with very little trouble apart from the 'odd' explosion or 3

Hello,
I'm trying to understand when Premier Cap Lamps were produced. There are some variations in the equipment (water lever, hexagonal base and hook). Does anyone know when these models started and ended? Thanks!
