Quaking Pot.

Many years ago myself and members of Pegasus caving club bottomed Quaking on ladders. Yesterday I receive a phone call asking if I was up for a do at it again, this time SRT. I can remember saying to myself that I was never going back into that place again. Is it still as bad as I remember?

Only ever sampled a very small part of Quaking so can't comment on that, but I have found that some things aren't as bas the second time around..

The EPC still hold the record for the fastest trip on ladders in Quaking
8hrs to the bottom and out to the Craven Heifer
Think it was around 1978

...and that included re-rigging the first pitch after T Pot broke the ladder by stomping up it - and the extra time it took for me and Bob Toogood to walk a bruised T Pot off the fell. I think there were 9 of us on the trip as well.

If you still remember it then it is either not that bad at all or you have completely exorcised the really nasty bits from your mind.

You should never be able to remember the bad bits.

Bad bits mmmmmmmmmmmmm !!!!
Dale head pot springs to mind
The Eldon did the 2nd or 3rd open access trip into Dale head after the initial diggers had got to the end. If you have been down there you may have seen a huge boulder sitting on the ledge of the 10ft pitch above the sump
That boulder wasn't originally in that place
On the speed trip to the sump and out i followed mouse down the penultimate pitch he then went onto the sump by free climbing the last pitch. in my wisdom i used the tail of the rope i was on and tied it around the boulder and continued to abb down the last
My weight set the boulder moving on the gravel it was sitting on and myself descending quicker than i wanted to followed by the bugger
I hit the deck with a thud and waited for it to follow me but it came to rest where it is to this day
Mouse was not a happy bunny cos it would have squashed us both if it had carried on coming down
He was even more pissed off when on exiting  i clipped me jumars on the rope still tied around the boulder  to make an exit

Bad bits mmmmmmmmmmmmm !!!! Meregill
Yep - we got mashed by a flood of meltwater, T Pot's holes joined by neoprene strips (wet suit!!) did little to stop hypothermia and I recall literally kicking him out of the cave - "Go up that passage or I'll kick you again".

I keep forgetting how much beer you owe me!!

Hey T,

He's taking the piss!! :spank:

An autobiography is one you write yourself, whereas a biography is written by someone else.

Hope you had a good stag night - if you can remember anything about it, then you weren't trying hard enough!!!
