Raising Money for CRO

Just thought I'd let all you Yorkshire cavers know that the University of Newcastle Caving Club is trying to raise some money for CRO by having a sponsored 24 hour cave in the Easegill System.

I know some of you already probably give money to support CRO, but if anyone can spare a couple of quid can they please help us by donating at www.justgiving.com/24hourcave.  We've got a target of ?250 and so far, and  have only raised about 10% so far.  So if you have a spare couple of quid could you please help us and donate.

Cheers,

Smithers

Sounds fine...so long as they don't cost more than they raise if they get exhausted and can't get out after 24 hours and need a callout! 24 hours is a long time to wait for rescue...

Just remember the "craptrap" is an alternative route down to the master cave - not where you go when you feel the urge  :yucky:

Smithers, assuming five people spend a day underground, wouldn't it be easier and quicker and more financially wise for them to just earn, say, minimum wage and pay ?2 per hour out of their efforts into the CRO pot and keep the balance. For 24hrs' effort not only would the CRO receive the target figure of ?250 (or thereabouts) but the cavers themselves would achieve something useful (i.e. the fruits of their labours) plus they'd also get some money in their own wallets, too.

Small darren drum with some lime/sawdust in should do the trick - affectionatly known as a poo tube in the vertical world of yosemite.

Correct; which rather begs the question why should people pay them to enjoy themselves, even if they bounce the money on to a third party?

Probably `cos it's for charidee. I'm only thinking out loud, BTW, I'm all for people doing as they please. After all, that's what cavers traditionally do.

Smither's, i think it a good idea, for a very good cause, and good luck to all involved.

However, i think to receive the most sponsorship a few more details of the planned trip might be advantagous. Such as, are you gunna camp or just stay awake, maybe partake in a dig, possibly be filming it for people on surface to also enjoy your experience, blah blah blah ?...  (y)

As stated above - "practicalities" spring to mind, waste disposal for one.

No drinks for three days before and plenty of Immodium!

Three days???

Now THATS worth sponsoring - don't bother with the caving bit - go to the pub instead!

I would rather sponsor you to clean junk and spent carbide out of a cave rather than just go and have a jolly. If someone were to offer you a pound for every pair of pants or odd sock you removed from alum pot lane you would soon be well on the way to your target.

Well done for raising money for a good cause.

Well I just thought I'd let you know so far we've managed to raise ?304 (plus ?85.19 gift aid) for CRO.  And there's still more time to donate, so we could end up raising even more!

Some of you asked what we were going to do about the facilities.  Well I've been busy coming up with a cave friendly solution.  Going for a wee isn't that much of a problem, we'll just do what everyone does and find some fast moving water, either that or stand at the top of a nice pitch.  As for solids, I've managed to find an old high impact plastic Howitzer shell casing, sothe plan is to bag it up and bung it in the case, and then remove it from the cave and flush it down the toilet when we get back to university.  Poo-roblem solved.

Smither's I'm shocked by you, you've taken an idea made for dogs (ie. the poop scoop haha), enlarged it (I hope) and converted it for human useage. *Thinks* Although... the idea IS an interesting novelty...  :-\

I can only hope that its the "depositer" and not there metaphorical owner :yucky:

...'who cleans up the mess' was meant to be on the end of that.

Also, make sure you are the first, and not the last person to use it  ;)
