Speaking of which, does anyone remember "Horlicks tablets"? Haven't seen them for years. I wonder if they're still made.

I hope not - they were disgusting.

I've seen Horlicks tablets for sale at a local chemists, also Dextrosol, that other standard gopping stuff we used to take on hikes.  My problem was that I always ate the lot within the first mile, felt like Superman for a short distance and then had an energy plummet for the rest of the trip.  Not even a tube of condensed milk could save me in these circumstances.

Aha - maybe they can still be obtained, so I can slip a tube of them in Langcliffe's tacklebag next time he's going past Ingleborough Cave!

So anyway, as you'd fired my curiosity, I found a Horlicks website - so I send a short email to the makers (GlaxoSmithKline) and within a few days I got a very nice letter back in the post. This explained that Horlicks tablets haven't been available in the UK market since around the year 2000. However they are still manufactured in Malaysia under the name of "Malties" - so Roger W is right! In with the letter came a small packet of Malties, these being slightly different from the ones we remember as they're chocolate flavoured.

Want me to save you some Langcliffe?  (y)

I'm sure I saw Horlicks tablets in the chemists not long ago.  I'm going to have to check.  If there's none there I'll have to right it off as memory playing tricks on me (again).
